Urban Foraging Workshops, held in Mount Victoria, Wellington, select the time and date from the drop down box.
Step into nature to discover a world full of wild, edible plants. Focusing on abundant, delicious & nutritious edible weeds & commonly found plants, you’ll leave this workshop eager to forage in your own backyard & local neighborhood.
We’ll take a wander around the gardens to find, identify, taste & discuss edible plants growing freely & abundantly. This is an immersive, outdoor workshop where you will learn:
~ the basic principles of sustainable & ethical foraging & wild harvesting
~ the botanical names of plants as well as their multiple common names
~ how to confidently identify 10-20 wild plants, with lots of details about lookalikes & toxic plants to avoid
~ nutritional & medicinal properties of each plant, including how to prepare simple healing remedies at home
~ how to prepare each plant for maximum nutrition & flavor, we’ll discuss simple recipes & tips for cooking each plant
~ the folklore & hisotry of each plant, how our ancestors foraged for & ate what we now call ‘weeds’. Many of these fascinating & often funny stories help us to connect with the plants, our ancestors and allow us to remember each plant better.
You’ll leave feeling empowered with the knowledge needed to build better local food resilience & food security. You can skip going to the supermarket after this workshop, instead gathering your own wild greens for dinner.
We’ll start with a cup of herbal tea, and end the session by enjoying a wildly delicious snack made with seasonally available wild ingredients. This varies with the seasons but could include a wild salad, weedy pesto, pickled greens, a herb infused butter etc.

Really enjoyed this workshop which I attended with my son. Felicity was very friendly and organised, taking us through some common plants that were very edible. I knew about some already but learnt a lot more about them. Felicity had prepared a couple of teas, salads, butters, a pickle and a spread. It was great fun to try these, some of which were really delicious. I am new to foraging, but think that people who already have some knowledge would also enjoy it.
What a fabulous foraging workshop, i found it informative and gained good knowledge to get out in nature to confidently add lovely wild ingredients to my meals. Very inspiring, thank you!
Felicity is very knowledgeable and will make a foraging become much more interesting by telling you all the details and history of the each plant. Thank you so much :)
Thank you very much for a great session on edible weed foraging! I have learnt heaps since following you and really enjoyed meeting you and learning even more in person. It was exciting to go home and find some of the edible treasures we had just learnt about that I didn't realise where there. You made the workshop very engaging and inspiring, I now feel confident in identifying these weeds and using them too. Thank you for all the delicious edibles for lunch too and the continuing inspiration :)
Thanks so much for an amazing session on edible weeds foraging. I’ve learnt so much. It was great to find edible treasures in the lawn and surrounding area. Felicity made the session interesting and engaging. I’d love to do her other workshops.
